Blackdamp

One flashlight. One way out. A battery that is already going.

Blackdamp is a maze crawl played in two halves. First you fly a drone through a brick labyrinth on a cold lamp with nothing at stake — reading the place, finding the wall the door code is painted on, working out which of the ways out is the empty one. Then you walk it yourself, on a flashlight battery that is already going, and everything you did not look at is a corridor you meet for the first time on foot.

How Blackdamp plays

Scout it free, then walk it for real

The drone has no battery and nothing to lose, so reconnaissance costs you only time. The moment you commit and go in on foot there is no recall and no second drone. Whatever you failed to look at is still dark, and you will be finding out about it at walking pace.

Light is the clock

The map fills itself in wherever your beam physically reaches, which makes it a receipt for what you spent rather than a reward for patience. Flood is wide and burns fast; a thrown probe reads a whole corridor from its mouth for a fraction of the cost. You can afford everything nearby, or a long way down one route — not both.

Something else is down here

Sodium orange sweeps across a wall two corners before you can see what is throwing it, and nothing else in the game is that colour. Kill your lamp and the beam cannot find you. They walk a beat and never hunt you across the maze — but a corridor you never scouted is unread, not safe.

Everybody gets the same maze

The seed is the date, so every player in the world is walking the same layout today, down to which brick is damp, and tomorrow is a different place entirely. Run out of light and the maze rebuilds cell for cell: you keep the map, you lose the relics and the battery, and the clock keeps running.
